🏁 Sparta Ski Team Seeding Policy
Team First
Ski racing is a team sport. Your individual seed order is not a reflection of your worth or effort. Just because a racer finished second in the last race does not mean they will be seeded second in the next race.
While we ask that racers and parents refrain from questioning seed order, we encourage staying in touch with coaches for periodic progress updates. Minor differences in seed placement are not a concern, what matters is learning to compete as a team, having fun, and performing your best.
Factors Influencing Racer Seeding
Coaches consider multiple factors when determining seed order. These include, but are not limited to:
Race Results
- Individual race times by discipline per run & per event (combined times)
- Last race results
- Season average race results
- Previous years’ results
- Number of DNF / DSQs
- NJISRA points
- USSS race results
On-Snow Training
- Performance during practice
- Freelap, video & hand timing results
Dry-Land Training
- Effort
- Attitude
- Performance
Conduct & Attitude
- Commitment to the team
- Communication with coaches and teammates
- Dedication, effort, and motivation
- Sportsmanship and positive behavior
Other Considerations
- Health / physical condition
- Attendance (see Attendance Policy)
- Strategy - positioning racers for optimal team results
- Seniority
- Compliance with NJISRA Rules (e.g., cross-racing restrictions between Varsity & JV)
Team Philosophy
Team performance is emphasized within NJISRA, which differs from typical individual-focused club racing. This team-oriented approach helps racers develop not just skiing skills but also leadership, collaboration, and discipline; valuable lessons for life both on and off the hill.
Remember: Your focus should always be on improving your skills, supporting your teammates, and contributing to the team’s success, rather than your individual seed placement.
