The Sparta Girls and Boys JV Ski teams performed well last night at the JV State Championship. The JV State Championship race consist of one Giant Slalom run followed by one Slalom run. The JV racers worked hard all year to compete at this event and they all skied strong and made us proud of their effort.
The JV Girls Ski Team had a wonderful night at the JV State Championships. In the giant slalom race, the JV girls ski team finished on the podium with a third place win behind Ridgewood (1st place) and Blair (2nd place). The four racers contributing to the Sparta JV girls race time of 3:50.36 were Rylee Selsor (4th overall), Bailey Plotts (10th overall), Evalyn Fitzsimmons (11th overall) and Kayla Semetana (15th overall). With a brief break in between races to inspect the slalom race course, the girls JV team prepared for their last race of the season. It was in this second race of the night, the girls JV team excelled and won 2nd place with a total team time of 3:13.97. Ridgewood finished in first place. The four JV girl racers contributing to the second place victory were Rylee Selsor (4th overall), Olivia Calandrillo (5th overall), Evalyn Fitzsimmons (9th overall) and Kayla Semetana (13th overall). Congratulations JV Girls Team for Winning Podium Placement in both disciplines!
Podium placement was more of a challenge for the boys team as there were many more high school boys teams competing. Needless to say, our JV boys skied steady and finished 6th overall in the giant slalom race with a total team race time of 3:28.79. Finishing in first place was Delbarton, followed by Ridge in second and Vernon in third. The four racers contributing to the Sparta JV Boys race time were Jake Scott (10 overall), Jack Maraziti (20th overall), Sean Hargrave (30th overall) and Colin Kowalski (32nd overall). The boys team also performed better in the slalom competition, finishing in 4th place overall. Ridge placed first, followed by Delbarton in second and then Vernon in third. The four JV boy racers contributing to the fourth place slalom finish were Jake Scott (3rd overall), Colin Kowalski (22nd overall), Jack Maraziti (23rd overall) and Sean Hargrave (30th overall).
