It was a meritable race! With a 2nd place finish for both our boys and girls varsity ski teams, you made us all very proud of your performance last night at our first Giant Slalom Race of the season. Every racer delivered an all out effort and showed perpetual enthusiasm helping the Sparta Ski Team secure 2nd place wins.
Just a half of a second away from taking 1st place, the boys ski team captured 2nd place overall. Ridge took first place with a total time of 6:30.78, Sparta second place with a total time of 6:31.29 and Newton in third place with a total time of 6:50.40. Contributing to the boys strong 2nd place finish were Brendan Muhs (2nd overall), Connor McAndris (7th overall); Joe Russo (11th overall) and Charles Flint (13th overall).
The girls varsity ski team also earned 2nd place with a total time of 7.10.23, just behind Wayne Valley which won first place with a total time of 7:03.52. Ridge placed third with a total time of 7.22.66. Leading the Sparta girls ski team into 2nd place were Polina Novozhilova (2nd overall), Jillian Stote (8th overall), Claudia Calafati (11th overall) and Rachel Young (12th overall).
The Sparta JV Girls Team swept the podium with the top three finishes as follows: Cora Moriarty won 1st place (1.58.60), Kayla Smetana in 2nd place (2:07.44) and Evalyn Fitzsimmons in 3rd place (2.09.80). Way to go ladies!
Three of our JV Boys finished in the top 5 of 16 racers: In third place overall Jake Scott (1:50.31), in 4th place Colin Kowalski (1:52.77) and in 5th place overall Jack Maraziti (1:57.49)
